Apple starts selling SIM-free variants of iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus in the U.S.

Finally, the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus unlocked SIM-free models are now available on Apple’s US online store. You can now purchase the SIM-free variants of Apple’s latest iPhone that will work with any carrier. A SIM-free iPhone means that there’s no contract commitment or carrier financing. Instead, customers can go to the carrier of their choice and pick up a nano-SIM card. That means you’re free to use a SIM card from any carrier that provides service for iPhone.

The carrier-unlocked iPhone in the US also includes support for Sprint and Verizon’s CDMA networks, as well as GSM network connectivity. According to Apple notes on network compatibility on its website, The SIM-free iPhone will work with any carrier. An iPhone activated on Sprint or Verizon Wireless, and the SIM-free iPhone, also have the ability to roam internationally on GSM networks.”

It looks like that the SIM-free variants of iPhone are not available through Apple’s iPhone Upgrade program. So if you want to make your purchase through iPhone upgrade program, unfortunately you still have to choose a carrier-locked iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus.
