Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 edge starts receiving Android Nougat update

It’s finally here – keeping it’s promise, Samsung has started rolling out the official stable release of the Android 7.0 Nougat update for the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge. The unlocked Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge units are now receiving the update. The OTA update notification hit the owners those running the beta builds, regular users will get the update as well very soon.

The OTA update size is around 215 MB for handsets that were previously enrolled in the beta. For the regular users running the stable build should expect a bigger OTA update size.

It’s looks like Samsung missed out the promise to roll out the Android 7.1.1 Nougat (the latest available version from Google) directly to the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge as the OTA update brings build number NDRD90M.G935FXXU1DPLT with Android 7.0 Nougat. The Nougat update comes with security patch is dated January 1. The Nougat build for the S7 and S7 edge brings:

  • Improved UI and various performance modes
  • New notification system and Quick Settings button
  • Improved Multi window feature
  • Improved settings and features for Always-on Display
  • Improvements in storage usage, app installation speed, and system update speeds

The Android Nougat update is rolling out gradually to Galaxy S7 and S7 edge owners in different regions. It may take few days to reach your handsets. You can check for any software update notification in the settings menu.
