Next Generation 4K Chromecast with Google TV Unveils Enhanced Remote!

In March, Google was developing a new Chromecast that runs on Android. 9to5Google officially confirms the announcement that Google TV 4K will be the follow-up to 2020’s Chromecast.

There are rumors that Google is preparing to release Google TV along with a new Chromecast. Together with a new remote control, it will still have the 4K resolution of the existing $49.99 model. It was released about two years after the HD follow-up, which many had anticipated would be a new flagship model, and nearly four years after the original model.

At last, Chromecast with Google TV 4K is available for us. The 2020 model features an Amlogic S905X3 quad-core 1.9 GHz ARM Cortex-A55 processor with 2 GB of RAM and 8 GB of storage. The latter specification has proven difficult to work with, and performance is merely acceptable.

Undoubtedly, this year’s offerings will be an improvement, but it’s important to consider the price range that Google is aiming for with its streaming dongles. A potential application for this chip is the Amlogic S905X5, which was unveiled in September of last year. The chip is two generations newer than the one found in the current 4K Chromecast, supporting AV1 and using a more efficient 6 nm technology as opposed to a 12 nm one.

As for the Chromecast Voice Remote, it was unveiled in the Android TV 14 Beta last year. Something similar to the build, but with more buttons and a D-pad at the top, was seen in a video that was included with the design. With the addition of a new star/”magic” button that may allow users to create a personalized shortcut, the right edge’s volume rocker has been relocated to the remote’s face.

In terms of operating system, the most likely update is Android 14, as Google abandoned Android TV 13. The present model is still running Android 12.
