Sony aims to be first manufacturer (outside Google) to roll out Android 7.1.1

Sony Mobile is just not holding back with it’s Nougat plan and targeting to become the first third-party manufacturer to release Android 7.1.1 Nougat. According to the Sony’s Xperia Concept team, this is their “number 1 priority.” Sony Mobile’s Xperia Concept development team said in a statement:

This is our (the Concept teams) number 1 priority” and that “if you spot any other vendor (excluding Google) releasing this faster than us, prepare your rotten tomatoes!

Sony’s Xperia Concept team already has the source code and is now waiting for the application suite (GMS apps) and the Compatibility Test Suite (CTS) from Google.

The Android 7.1.1 update includes several new features such as a restart option in the power menu (at long last) and the image keyboard for supported apps. Google has already moved from Android 7.0 to Android 7.1 to Android 7.1.1. which includes several new features and improvements.

Sony has already started rolling out Android 7.0 Nougat update for Xperia X Performance and Xperia XZ devices. The company will follow it’s schedule and will release the Nougat update to eligible Xperia devices in coming months.
